Born in Norfolk, worn worldwide

Renowned for its focus on longevity, comfort and everyday usability, Blakely Clothing is helping usher Norfolk’s fashion scene into a new era

East Anglia has long been defined by its celebrated figures and thriving businesses, earning recognition both nationally and internationally. In recent years, that reputation has extended into fashion, with Norfolk emerging as a hub for distinctive clothing brands. Among them, Blakely stands out as one of the county’s greatest home‑grown success stories, admired for its community‑driven authenticity and timeless designs.

Founded in 2012 by Gareth Newman, who grew up in Melton Constable, Blakely began as a side project while he studied pharmaceuticals at the University of East Anglia. His vision was simple yet ambitious: to create a clothing brand for young adults that combined accessibility with quality. At the time, he felt there was a gap in the market, with few high‑street options offering both style and longevity.

What started as a personal passion quickly resonated with others. While fast fashion continues to dominate with cheap, trend-driven products, Blakely has built its identity around durability and mindful consumption, encouraging customers to invest in pieces designed to last.

By 2015, the business had opened a UK warehouse, with its headquarters stationed in Gareth’s home town. Staying true to its Norfolk roots, Blakely continues to provide opportunities for local employees while expanding its reach far beyond the county.

Today, the brand is supported by more than 100 team members across two UK and EU locations, with a strong global presence both online and in-store. This remarkable journey from bedroom start-up to international sensation earned Blakely a place in The Sunday Times ‘Top 100 Fastest Growing UK Companies’ in 2025, ranking 76th nationally and 3rd in the East of England.

“When I launched Blakely from my bedroom in 2012, I never imagined we’d be recognised on a national scale like this,” Gareth reflects. “Being included in The Times Top 100 was a proud moment for me and the whole team. It represents the creativity, commitment and hard work that drive us every day - and the incredible support of our loyal customers, who continue to grow with us on this journey.”

The future looks bright for Blakely as it embraces a new era of online commerce. Drawing inspiration from the timeless charm of Norfolk (the brand name itself is taken from the nearby village of Blakeney) it has already proven its intent to make waves in both men’s and women’s fashion.

Blakely’s standout designs speak for themselves. Instantly recognisable, the brand has elevated simple, minimalist patterns into a lifestyle aesthetic that blends comfort with fashion. Extending this effortless look to families, the company recently launched Mini Blakely - a complete children’s line crafted with the same meticulous care and durability. “The sizing is designed to give children room to move and grow,” Gareth explains. “From hoodies to sweatpants, every piece is slightly oversized with a relaxed fit.”

Blakely’s ambitions reach far beyond fashion. At the start of the 2024/25 season, the brand became principal partner and front-of-shirt sponsor for Norwich City Football Club. “Having grown up in Norfolk and watched Norwich City play over the years, this collaboration is a hugely exciting step for us,” Gareth says. “We’re equally proud to support the growth of the women’s game and be part of their journey.”

That commitment deepened last summer, when Blakely took on the role of front‑of‑shirt sponsor for Norwich City Women’s First Team for the 2025/26 season. For Gareth and his team, fitness and wellness remain central to the brand’s ethos - a philosophy that inspired the launch of the APEX Games in 2024.

Designed around high‑intensity challenges that test strength, endurance and functional fitness, the competition embodies Blakely’s mission to champion both community spirit and performance. The September 2025 event drew more than 1,000 competitors, united by a drive to push athleticism to new heights. With food vendors, a pop-up shop and a restorative ‘Recovery Village’ offering physiotherapy, saunas and ice baths, the atmosphere was electric.

“I can’t wait to welcome participants to the fourth instalment this March,” Gareth says. “The Games bring together challenge, community and spirit to create an unforgettable occasion.”

As Blakely continues to soar, so too does Norfolk. The county’s reputation for entrepreneurship, creativity and culture is strengthened by success stories like these - a legacy residents will proudly carry into the future.
