Festival walking tour: Burneys of Georgian Lynn

13 Jul • St Nicholas Chapel, King's Lynn

With guide Paul Richards - 2026 marks the tercentenary of the birth of organist, composer, and prominent music historian, Dr Charles Burney. Burney was a principal figure in the cultural life of Georgian England and spent his formative years in King's Lynn. Arriving in Lynn in 1751 as organist at St Margaret's, he soon established celebrity status in the town and county. His daughter, Fanny, was born in Chapel Street in 1752. She achieved fame as England's first bestselling female novelist and her diaries provide unique insights into upper crust life in Georgian Lynn. The tour treads the Burney family path, ending at The Minster.
