Taste: Consensual or Personal

21 Jul • Corn Exchange Cinema, King's Lynn

Beginning with the acquisition by kings and aristocrats of Classical Roman sculptures and Italian Renaissance paintings from 1500 onwards, this richly illustrated talk explores the collecting of Egyptian artefacts and the production of Egyptian-style silver after 1790. It then shifts focus to a growing desire to own items relating to the Emperor Napoleon, topical sporting paintings, and things associated with Great Exhibitions.
